In May 1940 my now 99-year-old French grandmother fled the Nazis as they invaded Eastern France. This was the third war in the previous 70 years that my ancestors had been through with their neighbours.

For me the EU is above all the world's biggest peace project. I am lucky to be the first generation in my family not to have known war with the Germans. Today the strong French and Dutch influences in our family make me feel as European as I am British.

Of course, the European Union is far from perfect - it definitely needs reform. However, the EU's aims are laudable. Working together to face the challenges of living in a more interconnected world is surely the way forward.

I want my children to grow up in a country where were are open, fair, welcoming and tolerant of all peoples. That is why I am backing the People’s Vote campaign on the final Brexit deal.
