I have lived in the UK as a British citizen since coming here from East Africa as a teenager. I have always felt welcome whether in education or in my career. I had the opportunity to work at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and for me this was a defining moment in our country’s recent history, seeing people from all around the world coming together for a common cause. I felt proud to be a British Asian.

Since the referendum something fundamental has changed within the nation’s psyche. I see the rise of a far right element in society who believe in the superiority of their race. I find this both worrying and disturbing and think many leavers don’t want me in our country. This time it’s the EU citizens they want out, next time it may be me, when will they come for you?
