As a teenager, my first vote was in the 1975 referendum for membership of the Common Market.  This was an easy decision, as being European was a natural progression for the peace and prosperity of the UK - and for Europe as a whole.

I am appalled to think that being part of the European Union may now be lost. The current destabilisation outside of Europe, and rise in extreme politics, has made membership of the EU more important than ever.
